November 4, 2016 – Where it all began
I like to sing in the shower. I’m not particularly great at it or anything, but I like to sing things as they occur. It makes the time pass, or something. On this morning in November, I was doing my usual self examination when I suddenly sang, “one of these things is not like the other” as I slowly circled around my left breast (stop now if that word is going to make you uncomfortable).
As soon as the song finished, and I registered the words that just came out of my mouth, my heart sank to the floor. There it was, the tiniest (or so I thought) lump, hunkering down right below the nip, nestled gently in my solidly B (C on a good day) cup left boob, taunting me as I checked my right.
I finished my shower, quickly got changed, hopped in the car and sped off to work. I think I even left a turd in the toilet, I kid you not, I GTFO-ed so hard, I turd bombed my new roommate. Priorities. Once I was at work, I called my Primary Physician, got scheduled right away and popped in for a quick chat and boob rub. “Probably a cyst, you’re very young”, and thus I was referred to the imaging clinic the following week. Which was fine by me, because I had an Iceland trip planned, and I had no desire to postpone it.
I’m so thankful I didn’t. Ignorance is such bliss.
